Coach Ahearn is a 2003 graduate of DeSmet and a two time all state selection. During his high school career he was selected as a Nike All-American. Following his time as a Spartan he accepted a basketball scholarship to Missouri State University.
A four-year starting guard for the Bears of coach Barry Hinson, Blake Ahearn wound up MSU’s 7th-leading all-time scorer with 1,677 points and is the career three-point field goal leader at 276. Ahearn led NCAA Division I in free throw shooting each of his first three years and set Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA single season and career records for free throw percentage which still stand. He shot .975 as a freshman, hitting 117 of 120 shots, and his career mark of .946 was fashioned on 435 of 460 from the line. He was 2004 MVC Freshman of the Year and an all-league first team selection as a junior and senior.
Ahearn spent eight years as a professional, playing for the NBA’s Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz. He was the all-time scoring leader in the NBA Development League and also set the modern day professional record making 110 consecutive free throws during the 2011-2012 season. Coach Ahearn also played in Spain, Italy, Ukraine, China and Puerto Rico. He represented Team USA at the Pan American Games in 2011 where he earned a bronze medal. Ahearn will be entering his first season as the head coach at DeSmet following one year at Clayton High School.

Sumner Ahearn President of Camp Operations
Sumner Ahearn is an Assistant Coach for the Fontbonne University Men’s Basketball Team. Ahearn played point guard for the Griffins from 2010-2014 and was a two-year starter. During the 2014-2015 season while completing his undergraduate degree, he was a student assistant for the men’s team. Ahearn handled the offense and a lot of recruiting for the Griffins. His main responsibilities as an assistant will include handling daily basketball activities, recruiting, guard work and scouting.
Ahearn attended high school in the Saint Louis area at nearby Clayton High School. During his three-year varsity career the Greyhounds improved in wins each year including seeing the school's greatest win streak in the last 10 years (12 games) during his junior year. He was a two-year starter during his high school career and was among the area leaders in three-point percentage, shooting 47% and 50% from the three-point line his junior and senior years respectively. Ahearn comes from a rich family tradition in the Saint Louis area. John, his dad earned many honors at Clayton High School and went on to have a successful career at Washburn. His cousin Blake, a DeSmet graduate, is the NCAA Career leader in Free-Throw percentage and played in the NBA for the Spurs, Heat and Jazz. Ahearn is one of 5 family members to play in the Fontbonne University Basketball program.
